Slavery – The Whole Story

bill warnerThis is a good, quick video overview. Very accurate from my knowledge, as much as Dr. Warner can say so quickly. He only indirectly hits on the early 19th century slavers: the British, Dutch and French East India Companies, and the German Hanseatic League (their slaves were mostly white Slavic surfs) who trafficked slaves to America from Islamic and African slave trade brokers, but he alludes to it.

In the 18th century (1700’s), Quakers and many evangelical denominations were vocal and organized in their condemnation of slavery as un-Christian. See advertisements in newspapers from the 1700s below.

Warner doesn’t discuss the enslavement of poor Irish (ancestors of many Americans!) to replace the black and creole slaves in the Caribbean freed after the Slavery Abolition Act, (1833) in Britain. The Act was championed by abolitionist William Wilberforce. Wilberforce University in Ohio is named after him – the first college to be owned and operated by African Americans, founded in 1856. He alludes to indentured servitude of all races where the slave had to buy his/her way out of slavery, sometimes as payment for the fare for the Atlantic crossing (mostly poor whites) to the new world. When they could not pay it back, they became slaves for life—until the end of the Civil War. The British East India Company sold anybody into slavery of all races, especially after the formal abolition in 1833 Britain.

The British sold French, Dutch and Germans (Boers) into Caribbean slavery during the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902). Kamala Harris’ great grandfather was a notorious British slave trade lawyer in Jamaica named Hamilton Brown. Her mother is Indian (from India).  Her father is a Jamaican economist allied with George Soros and the U.N.

Below the headline link, read about Kamala Harris’ ancestors who were big time slave traders in the Caribbean. One wonders when the family stopped their business of human trafficking… or did they?
